Small Adjustments Now, Stronger Marriage Later
Every year, around this time, I restock my food storage. I look at what we’ve used up, what’s still there, and what we haven’t touched. It’s a simple audit to make sure we’re ready for anything that might come our way. And you know what? Our marriages need the same kind of care.
This Week’s Insight: Just like my food storage audit, our marriages need regular check-ins.
As life gets busy—jobs, kids, routines—it’s easy to let little things slip. Maybe you’ve stopped praying together, or date night has been pushed aside because of summer plans. Maybe a conflict has been lingering, and instead of resolving it, you’re creating more distance. Just like food storage, if we ignore these things, they can pile up, and before we know it, we’re in a situation where we need more than a small fix.
Real Life example: Hurricane Helena recently swept through the U.S., reminding us all how quickly life can change without warning. Just as we prepare our homes for natural disasters, we need to ensure our marriages are ready to withstand life’s unexpected storms. Don’t wait until a crisis hits—take the time now to strengthen your foundation.
Marriage is like preparing for a storm. You never know when a sudden financial burden or health issue might strike. And when those storms come, we need a strong foundation—just like having food storage ready to support us through an unexpected emergency.
Marriage Assessment Challenge: This week, take a few moments to evaluate where you and your spouse are and ask these few questions
Have small habits crept in that could lead to distance?
Are you putting your relationship on hold, assuming it’ll be fine while you deal with life’s distractions?
The good news? You can course-correct. Just like restocking my food storage, you can make small adjustments to make sure your marriage stays strong.
