Love Better, Live Brighter: Why Self-Care Matters This Christmas

This Christmas, Don’t Forget to Put You on Your List.

Hello Readers,

The holiday season is here—full of joy, traditions, and … let’s face it, it’s a beautiful time, but it’s also a busy time. And in all the hustle, we can lose sight of one important truth: We can’t give what we don’t have.

Fill Your Cup First: Why Self-Care Matters This Holiday

Sometimes, we feel selfish for stepping back to care for ourselves. After all, shouldn’t we put others first? But the truth is, giving from an empty cup often leads to burnout, resentment, or half-hearted service.

That means taking care of our spiritual, emotional, and physical health isn’t selfish—it’s essential. When we’re filled, we’re better able to love, serve, and truly enjoy this sacred season.

Self-Care is a Gift to Your Family

Think about it: When your cup is full, you show up differently.

• You’re more present.

• You’re more joyful.

• You’re more able to give freely, without resentment.

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf reminds us:

“We would do well to slow down a little, focus on the significant, lift up our eyes, and truly see the things that matter most.”

This Christmas, instead of pushing through with empty energy, try focusing on filling your cup. Here are three practical, cost-effective ways to practice self-care this season:

1. Take 10 Minutes for Stillness

Whether it’s prayer, scripture study, or just quiet reflection, starting your day grounded in the Savior makes all the difference. Even a few focused moments with Him can remind you of His grace and give you strength for the day ahead.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

2. Get Moving—Even Just a Little

You don’t need an hour-long gym session to recharge. A walk around the block, stretching in your living room, or even a spontaneous family dance party can boost your energy and help you refocus. Movement is a gift to your body and mind.

3. Set One Boundary

Protect your peace by saying “no” to one thing that isn’t essential. Let go of the need to do everything, and focus on what truly matters—especially within your marriage and home. President M. Russell Ballard reminds us:

“The Lord does not expect us to do more than we can do.”

Here’s Your Reminder:

You’re not failing when you pause to refill your cup. You’re not falling short when you take time to rest, reflect, or reset. In fact, you’re doing exactly what Christ invites us to do.

This season, give your family—and yourself—the gift of you. A full, joyful, balanced version of you. That’s a gift they’ll cherish far beyond Christmas Day.

With love and belief in you,

Coach Leslie
